Although originally inspired by the needs of modern deepwater anglers fishing off the Nordic coast, if you are looking for a high-end rod for fishing exclusively with braid, the Aspire Boat Slim should certainly be on your list. As the name suggests, this range is super-slim and is also remarkably lightweight, in fact there's a good chance you won't believe the line-ratings on the rod! The lightness makes them easy to use, even when fishing in very deep water with large weights, but they are also sensitive, enabling your braided mainline to transfer information that would be missed when using heavier rods and mono line.
The fantastic action of these rods is due to the use of the very best Shimano carbon technology - Spiral X and Hi-Power X. Both of these manufacturing processes reduce weight and also blank twist when under pressure, giving the Aspire stiffness and extraordinary power in the lower part of the rod, whilst the tips remain sensitive for bite detection and fish-playing. This is the perfect combination for gaining control of fish when fishing at depth, whilst having the insurance of a tip action to overcome the lack of stretch in your line as fish nears the surface. And there's no need to worry about the harshness of braid on the guides. The Aspire is fitted with special Fuji SiC Braid guides which remove the build up of heat.
To complement the top quality blank and guides, there is also a very secure Shimano aluminium reel seat that locks your reel to the rod with complete security to enable powerful cranking. An ergonomically shaped EVA handle, with an aluminium gimbal hidden under a rubber cover, for use with fighting belts, ensures you can apply maximum pressure when required, especially when moving fish off the bottom at the start of a battle.
Although this rod will be a big hit in the deep waters off the Nordic coast, targeting halibut and massive cod, if you fish shallower waters from a boat, check out the lighter 12-20lb and 20-30lb models.
