What's Special about the Shimano Baitrunner DL Reel?
The Shimano Baitrunner DL stands out from the original Baitrunner DL FA. With it's all new black body cosmetics, sleek looks and host of modern features, the DL is a significant contribution to the Baitrunner family. The DL is available in both front drag (FB) and rear drag (RB), with both reels utilising all the latest modern technology that is synonymous with the Shimano brand. It's packed with some really clever technology which puts the Baitrunner DL in a category of exceptional reels that give the angler greater control and efficiency when fishing baits.
Shimano Bairunner DL Front Drag Reel (FB)
The Shimano DL comes with two different types of drag system. As a front drag (Shimano Baitrunner 2500FB) you can choose from either a 2500 or 4000, both incredibly versatile and adaptable therefore giving the angler greater control when fishing for predatory species such as Pike or Zander using deadbaits or enabling you to take on hard fighting Carp and Barbel when feeder fishing. The Baitrunner DL 2500FB has a line capacity of 260m of 0.25mm line and a gear ratio of 4.8:1, the 4000FB takes 160m of 0.25mm line and also has a gear ratio of 4.8:1.
Shimano Bairunner DL Rear Drag Reel (RB)
The rear drag option is available in 6000 and 10000. The 6000 is the ideal tool for tackling smaller lakes and rivers, whereas the 10000 is perfect for using with heavier lines and braids when you really want to cast out baits exceptionally long distances or target specific swim areas. With the 10000 DL for example you can hook into aggressive, bigger fish with confidence as the Baitfeeder function give the fish the chance to run on a controlled freespool.
Aesthetics of the Baitrunner DL
Aesthetically and cosmetically, these reels are stunning to look at. In a highly stunning gun metal grey, these reels would compliment your Pike or Carp rod no problem. Sleek design, proportionally balanced, smooth handling and functional integrity will no doubt have you raving about these reels to your fishing buddies.
Technology of the Baitrunner DL Reels
Don't make make the mistake and start romanticising about how nice these reels are because under the hood there's some serious engineering and technology going on. Things like Varispeed, Dynabalancing, XT-7 body armour, Power Roller and a cold forged aluminium spool.
For example with the DL's classic AR-C spool, Varispeed oscillation will ensure you are able to achieve a faultless line lay each time. The Baitrunner system allows you to enjoy a huge variety of tension settings and enables you to switch between freespool mode and fight mode in a matter of moments. And when the Baitrunner DL's Super Stopper II feature kicks in, it will ensure you always land your fish with efficiency and confidence
The DL Baitrunner's 'Dynabalance' feature eliminates wobble during retrieve by counter balancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness. This effect is similar in car wheel balancing where there is a re-distribution of weight to create a smoother rotation and greater elimination of vibration. Ball bearings, as well as Floating Shaft II technology, extend the longevity of your reel as well as improving the smoothness of performance. Fishing reel can come under considerable strain in their lifespan after countless tussles with hard fighting fish but the design integrity of these reels and the inherent technologies ensure that the Baitrunner DL doesn't let you down when it matters.
The Baitrunner DL is definitely punching above it's weight in terms of quality and price so if you are in the market for a Baitrunner, the DL FB 2500 or FB 4000 is perfect for the match or river angler who likes to fish feeder tactics for big specimens such Carp. Whereas the bigger brother, the Baitrunner DL RB 6000 or 1000 is the boy for the bigger stuff.
